About me, the pencil portrait artist

Pencil portrait artist

From a very early age, I loved to draw. I got inspiration from Marvel comic books and sat for hours copying the artwork in them. This eventually led to a love of art and particularly pencil drawing. I went to a Saturday morning class at an art college in my home town of Burton-on-Trent, practicing still life drawing and art in general. I left school with an O’Level and A’level in art. About this time I did the drawing to the right, it’s of my grandma and great uncle, this sat, framed, on our living room wall for years and now sits in my home. It is the drawing that eventually sparked the whole thing off.

After leaving school I went on an Art Foundation course for a year before eventually attending Polytechnic (as it was back then) to study Graphic Design. As technology was advancing at a phenomenal rate, I ventured into computer-generated graphics and left the simplicity of the pencil. I left poly with a BA (Hons) and ventured out into the corporate world, with jobs in video production and graphic design.

I eventually ended up with my own web design company which I still love to do (hence this site). But I still missed the simplicity of me, a piece of paper and a pencil, so I did a couple of drawings for family, then upon seeing them friends asked me how much it would cost to have one done for them and the rest, as they say, is history.

I hope you enjoy looking at my pencil portraits as much as I do drawing them. If you fancy sending me a photograph (Send it via the form HERE), I’ll look and check its viability as a drawing. There is no obligation and if you decide, this can then be used to produce your unique, one-off, original piece of art.
